2000 Dodge Stratus 2.4 L 4 cyl NEED HELP identifying a part
Hello,
I bought a 2000 dodge stratus a few weeks ago. I replaced the right front hub assembly becuase it was making that annoying noise when a bearing is going.
I notice that my 2 upper front ball joints needed to be replaced, also, my stablizer links needed to be replaced. I bought those and now the front end is buttoned up.
Still, same noise. The bearings seem real strong in the rear. So it can't be that. So I did some looking around and noticed some tears in what look to be ball joints. The rubber was torn and they were dry, so I filled them with grease and the noise is starting to quiet.
I have searched, and searched for this part. It looks identical aside from a slight bend to a front upper ball joint. I can not find the name of this part anywhere. It is above the wheel assembly and it has two bars about an inch thick that connect to it's setting.
Can anyone help me, I am in despair!
Thank you in advance. I just need the name of the part. It looks like a ball joint but I can not find a rear ball joint for a 2000 dodge stratus 2.4L DOHC 4 cylinder ES for the life of me! I was asked by one person if I was sure if it was a 2000. It is, the body style between the 2000 and 20001 are completely different!

Okay, if you had to pick one of the numbered items in the break down here, which is the part you are asking in regards to? Go to the link below and click to zoom in.

How I got this picture:
http://dodgeparts.mopar.com/dodge/oem-dodge-parts.html
Navigate, you'll need java, to the correct year/model. Then look to the category Front Suspension. Keep clicking the sub-categories until you see the picture posted above and a list of parts corresponding to the numbers in the picture, below the said picture. You'll have to use a 3rd mouse button(usually under the wheel of the mouse) to scroll lower on the items listed out by number. Not just rolling it, but actually clicking the button under the wheel in order to generate the 'drag' and scroll, but you must do this over the list of parts for sell.
You can also order the part from that site directly, you must register with the mopar site to do so. It will help you identify it, at least. Another user on the forums explained his efforts to stop a particular sound from the front. I still have creaking when going over speed bumps etc., but I began to also hear a squealing noise from the driver side wheel area. Apparently, these cars need greasing often at the Upper Control Arm for the ball joint, probably every other oil change to stay 'lubed'. After greasing both front wheels at the location(there should be a fitting), the noise eventually went away as the new grease went to work. It took a little while though. Like 2-3 weeks of driving.

It looks like one of them you mentioned is the part 27, "Seal", located around the Upper control arm grease point, just below the fitting into the ball joint. Come to think of it mine may be worn too. Did you want a new seal or ball joint upper control arm?
It looks as though the seal runs for $5.20, but the joint can't even be purchased directly. If you click 'more' you can find a dealer and ask them about it over the phone.

I would have to say 57 and 58 is the closest. This part has the pin and crown shaped bolt like the bearings in the front to. Only in the photo you have given me that looks compltely upside down.
Those pictures you have given me look nothing like the rear end of my Dodge. I am going to take a shower and come back with pictures of my dodge exactly!
thank you!
And yes, it looks exactly like part twenty seven, but it's not located there. It is located in the exact place that part 57,58 are!

If you look at part 27 it is what seems to be one solid piece that is connected to the wheel with a ball joint, correct? That ball joint is the one I am talking about. The rubber underneath it is ripped and was completely dry until yesterday. It has no part # for it from what I have been able to find!
The part I need is located between 27 & 28, it has the two bars that go to it (27, (may be one bar just looks like two to the naked eye), and it looks exactly like a ball joint. It is connected to

Did I misunderstand you? You asking if there is a ball joint on the REAR, not the front?
If so, here is a picture of the rear suspension:

It appears to be the same terminology as the front. It is a Ball joint, Upper control arm at location 8 with the fitting on top and apparently should have the seal as well.
Seal and fitting can be purchased.
Otherwise, Are you talking about the right side of the picture you posted that is cut off? That part?

Okay, good to hear. I could see the picture, but to the right of the parts 27/28, the next image is cut away, since its not labeled for parts as its part of the wheel assembly. Where were you able to buy the part if you don't mind me asking?
The upper and lower ball joints are the same. They are pressed into the upper control arms, and require a press to remove and install the joints. Chrysler says the rear ball joints are replaceable, but the fronts must be replaced with the upper control arm. All parts jobbers list the same ball joint for the front and rear. I call Chrysler parts for the boots. The claim they are not replaceable, and the ball joint has to be replaced with the boot. Your owners manual, and the factory service manual indicate they the boot IS replaceable. Thanks addjct for a source.
