Default 1995 Dodge Stratus Problems and Maintenance Help

I am going to be driving a 1995 Dodge Stratus this year and I want to know what kinds of problems it is known for as well as the timely maintenance I should be doing on it. I want to make sure that I can keep the car in good shape so that it can maintain it's reliability. So fill me in please.

All cars are a crap shoot. These cars have front and rear upper ball joints. These joints have to be lubricated every 30KM. They do have grease zerks. They also have the tendency to blow the boot from over greasing. Just pump enough grease to see the boot start to expand.

Welcome to the forum. Please let us know what your cars specs are. We know it's a 95 sedan, but we should also know what your current mileage is, as well as which engine you have (2.0 inline 4, 2.4 inline 4, 2.5 v6) and which trim level you have (SE or ES).

There isn't much information on the 2.0i4 to say if there is any "common" problems with it, the consensus from searching around, is that the 2.4i4 is a pretty stable engine with potential for fuel pressure issues and some oil consumption.
If you've got the 2.5v6, keep your eyes open for oil fowled spark plugs, and oil leaking from around the valve covers. They seem to be a weak spot.

There is an transmission solenoid pack that is known to leak at the seal of the trans and the solenoid pack. You'll see it just to the right of the engine, and looking straight down at the transmission. While it is possible to just replace the gasket, it isn't available aftermarket, and is only sold as a component of the solenoid pack now.
If you had anything done to the transmission, make sure ONLY ATF+4 fluid was used (it will be strawberry red in color, if it looks or smells "burnt" than it's due to be changed). Anything else will make your 41te trans shift improperly, and can cause further damage.

Like Yankee mentioned, the 4 wheel wishbone suspension handles great, but has several weak spots that need to be maintained, such as those ball joints. Take care of your Strats general needs and it should be ready to take care of you for years to come.

I'll get back to you on all that information. I don't have the car just yet.

get a mid 90's toyota corolla or Geo Prizm instead. you'll have a lot less problems.
