Red face 03 Stratus exhaust piece

Daughter called me from the road. She has a 2003 Stratus 4cyl and heard some noise coming from the lower rear of the car. When she pulled over, the piece in the pictures was just hanging and eventually fell off. I showed a few people the pix and was told this is a cover for part of the exhaust assembly to keep it from over heating. Is this accurate?? That would mean somewhere between the CC and muffler. I won't be able to look at the car until the weekend but was wondering if anyone recognizes the part. Thanks! Joe

It is called a Heat Shield. It goes between the cat converter and the floor-boards of the car. It is to keep converter heat off the floor-boards. I have heard some say that without it the boards get hot enough to destroy the carpet (Burn?).

Thanks! That's what I was looking for. Must be a couple of bolts that work there way loose after a few years of driving. When I first looked at the first picture i was like oh no!, transmission housing or something until i saw the pic off the car didn't look like much. Just wondering the cost now. Is it doable for a novice car guy if I get the part??? Thanks agin for the input!
