Default Check Transmission Fluid

You know everywhere I checked on here it said Check the fluid while in Neutral. I have been doing that for the past year. Yesterday I pulled out the dipstick on tranny fluid and it said "idle in Park". What the heck is up with that?

Each vehicle is different. Some are checked in neutral while others in park. I would follow the dipstick and check it in park.

I would think all automatics would want you to check fluid level in park so you don't get run over. (neutral car could roll).

Many cars, years ago, said to check in park or neutral. But I suppose someone probably sued because they got run over while checking fluid in neutral on a hill. So saying park reduces product liability.

the car should not roll you are supposed to check it on level ground anyway. two words parking brake!
