Default Doddge stratus stalls when defrosters are turned on.

My Stratus stalls when the defrosters are turned on. I was told that the idle air control may be bad, but the car seems to idle fine with the AC off. I was told to look for a bad ground at battery or bad ground at the resistor block near the heater box. Has anyone seen a stalling problem like this before with the stratus or other makes. I prefer not to buy a IAC for $250 to find out I had a bad wire or some other ovbious fix.
Thanks
Jerry

Sounds like your a/c compressor is locked up. When the A/C or defroster is kicked on, it engages the clutch on the compressor. Typically the belt will squeal and spin over it, (and destroy it) but it just haults the rest of the engine.

I was thinking the same thing about the compressor being locked.

you would know if the compressor was locked up - that is a no brainer - since it is not obvious - can you think of any better options to check
