Default Air intake temp. sensor

I just bought my first ever Dodge a month ago ('05 Stratus R/T man.) I'm looking in to making it my own. I've been reading about an "Air Intake Temp. Sensor" what is it? Is it a blot on or do I have to have a service dept. do it?
thanks

the ECU controls the richness mixture of the air and fuel based on the temperature, so you get the same economy/performance in all temperature
