Where'd the power go?
I was wondering why there is a 5 hp/3pd ft tq loss in the 2004 stratus coupe w/ 2.4 L engine and auto tranny vs. one with a manual? Is there a power loss in the 6 cyl auto vs. manual?
Maybe, To clarify my question Badstrat, my car has 142 hp/ 155 pdft a manual verision has 147 hp / 158 pdft of tq.
I this much diffence in power between a manual and auto that common? I don't recall seeing different horsepower/ torque listings for any other cars offered in both manual and auto versions. They just list fuel economy differences. Are just the better numbers usually given?

the only instance that i can think of for this situation is the new RX8s. when they came out (im not sure if this is still the case) the manual version offered quite a bit more power than the automatic...mazda opted not to tell anyone, until people with the automatic who were unhappy with how the car felt began dyno'ing them..and found out that the hp was over rated.
can i ask where your numbers came from? those could very well be the hp numbers with the loss for the heavier less efficient auto trans already calculated out.

ON Caranddriver.com it has them listed in the review section and on cars.com also have them listed that way. Could both of these sites be wrong. I have not put the car on a dyno so I cannot verify them.
