Default dodge stratus

I have a 2001 dodge stratus with a bad 2.4, engine. I'm wanting to replace it with a 2003 dodge engine 2.4. I'm told it want work because the crank sensor want work with the 2001 computer system and that the 2003 engine was designed only for the 2003 stratus and want work in any other year. Is this true. The crank sensor on the 01 is located between the fire wall and the engine the cranks sensor on the 03 is up front by radiator under the starter. will the 03 not work in the 01

thanks

I thought you already replaced it in April with a 2003 motor...

I did replace the motor but it only fires from cylinders 1 & 4 so i was told by a shop that the 2003 2.4 motor want work in a 2001 stratus becuause of the crank sensor and crank sensor location. the 01 and 03 crank sensors are different. one is long and the other is short and the 03 sensor want work with the 01 computer system. I'm just trying to see if this is true.
