01 Stratus Stalling When Warm
Hey guys. I have an 01, V6, automatic Stratus that just cracked 100k. I was backing out of my driveway the other day and out of nowhere it just stalled on me. It fired right back up and was fine for the next few miles. Then it stalled again, once again fired right back up, but this time it kept stalling the whole way back to my house. I parked it for the night, next morning it drove with no problems until it warmed up, then it started stalling more frequently. I tested my alternator and battery, and it's not throwing any codes. I decided just to go out and get a new battery anyway since it is about due, stalled out the whole way there and as soon as I pulled in the parking lot it died for good. Turns over fine, lots of juice in the battery, just wouldnt fire up. I tried for a few minutes, got it to start one time but the RPM's shot straight up to 5k, stayed there for a sec, and died again. So I had it towed to the nearest mechanic, who has had it for 3 days... just called me a little bit ago to tell me it's starting when cold but dying when warm and he can't figure out why. He says he has checked everything he possibly can, and everything seems normal except for something about the #1 coil? Could that be the problem? When the stalling first started it skipped and missed while driving, but only died when I would come up to a stop sign, then progressively got worse and started dying while driving. Could that be a coil going bad? I thought either a weak fuel pump, or bad O2 sensor... but he says they're fine. Just confused at this point and I would hate to have to sell the car for parts. Anybody have something similar happen, or have any ideas? Thanks.
Is your car Coupe or Sedan? Because the Coupe is a Mitsubishi, complete different car.
Maybe Idle air control. Could be EGR valve stuck open. Coolant temp sensor failed. Cam and Crank sensor is not uncommon failure, But it usually throws a code, and needs to be monitored with Scanner.
Coil could be the problem If you have a Coupe, because it has distributor.
But on a 2.7 sedan, I doubt it, it should set Mis-Fire code, But engine shouldnt stall with only 1 dead cyln.
Maybe you'll have to end up in a dealership instead.
