Default stratus egr (code 32) and O2(code 21)

I asked this on general tech but was it too tech for that forum?Has anyone had closer look on sensor circuits?
I had code 21 from my 96 2.5LV6 engine.
It claims the oxygen sensor is broken, dealer took code out also and confirmed that upstream sensor stays at centre.
Before getting new sensor I would ask your help to determine if it is the actual sensor that is gone...
I have four wires coming to sensor and one of these is green/purple?If I measure with engine running this wire is only one
having life, voltage from 7,5 to 13,5 volts appear depending how fast motor is running.
Should I have steady voltage from battery to sensor on one wire? All other wires are dead, might work few hundreds of kilometers without
"check engine".
The only question:Is the sensor gone or am I missing steady supply voltage?

One tip:I had code saying "open or shorted circuit on EGR valve circuit"Code 32
I opened the EGR solenoid/transducer assy (it can be opened carefully,if opened there is one spring inside, don't waste it)
Membrane inside was black and dirty,it should close one vacuum hole when activate.
I cleaned it up and re-assembled the unit.At same time I made sure that all pipes were tight and no leakeage appeared
on vacuum side.
After this code 32 has not appeared.
Maybe first aid but still working...

PS.I found out that by visiting www.topbuzz.co.uk and writing for instance "oxygen"to search engine produces an explanation
for lambda sensors.
Includes testing guide too, knock sensor is also explained.
GOOD SITE EVEN IT IS FOR UK MADE CARS MAINLY!!!

hey faustburger,

I tried what you did, and it didn't work for me...still get the 3-2 code. Maybe I need to actually replace the solenoid-transducer? Anyway, I thought I would add some information that may or may not be useful:

The EGR solenoid assembly is black, sort of flying saucer shaped, and connects to the right side of the engine head, I mean it's on your right side as you look down into the engine from the front (97 Dodge Stratus, 2.4). There are two hoses going into it, and it plugs into a third air line of some type on the side. There is a black cylinder on top of it. The whole thinkg kind of reminds me of the original Starship Enterprise. It can be found by removing the big black plastic air chamber (not sure of its name) between the air filter and the fuel injector.

I unplugged the wire and electrical connection to the trasnducer (the thing Faustberger described pretty well). I started the engine, and the codes were still there. I hope that's normal. Didn't get any new codes. In other words, whether the EGR solenoid assembly is plugged in or not, I still get the 3-2 code.

Also, on another forum, someone said they noticed the wires were crimped or broke. My wires look ok.

I disassembled the "flying saucer" part, cleaned the orange rubber membrane and everything, put back together, no change in 3-2 code. What thinketh you? Guess I'll try to find the part, cheap.
