Default 2001 R/T Fuel Pump?

01 R/T automatic.

I was really low on gas Sunday night when I got home, figured I would get gas in the morning. I wasn't having any problems with the car.

Monday morning I go out to warm up the car, as I start walking away from the car I noticed it started sputtering, then stalled. Subsequent attempts to start the car failed. It would turn over, sputter and stall. Sometimes I could push on the accelerator and the car would respond, but most times it wouldn't. It reminded me of the time I ran out of gas.

So I put a gallon in, but no luck. The car would still turn but never run, it'd sputter and shake and die out, like there's still no fuel in the car. Someone suggested the fuel pump went out just like that.

I let the car sit for a few hours, then tried again. The car started fine, ran for 10-15 seconds then the same thing happened. It sputtered, and stalled.

I disconnected the battery and reconnected it and started the car up. Started fine, then sputtered and stalled and kept on every time I would start up again. I left it sit for a few more hours, went and tried it again and it started up fine for 15 seconds, then the same problems.

I found the fuel pump is located in the gas tank which you can access by removing the rear seats, which I did and banged on it a few times. No change.

I'm lost. I'm not entirely sure it's the fuel pump. I was thinking ECU possibly but really no idea.

Any suggestions?

Replace the fuel pump. It's an easy job, you can get a pump and filter for about 120 and it's an OEM fit. I just put one in, took about 30 minutes. If the car has over 100k it's getting close to needing one anyway. There are some relays you can swap around under the hood but I'm guessing fuel pump.

Do I need any special tools? What about the disconnecting/reconnecting the fuel lines?

No special tools needed. Squeeze the inner part of the fuel line connecter and then just pull off the fuel line.
