2000 stratus 2.5 p0300-p0306
so lately when the car is first started and still very cold, the check engine light flashes briefly and then turns off. now it stays illuminated and i scanned it and got random misfire (p0300) and all the misfire codes too (p0301-p0306) but no noticable misfire when it happens. i have been wrenching over 25 years and i know usually when this happens the car should be bucking and missing really noticable. possible i have a pcm going south? is there a scan tool out there that can actually watch misfires as in something on the line of mode $6? any help would be appreciated. btw...about a year ago i replaced valve cover gaskets and spark plug tube seals, new plugs and wires, reman distributor with cap & rotor and crank sensor.
there are alot of scanners that read live data starting around 130.00 dollars(advance auto) and up. here is a list of possible causes for p0300
SYMPTOM
P0300-MULTIPLE CYLINDER MIS-FIRE
WHEN MONITORED
Any time the engine is running, and the adaptive numerator has been successfully updated.
SET CONDITION
When more than a 2% (2.5% LEV) misfire rate is measured during two trips. Above 3000 RPM 1 trip less than 3000 RPM 2 trip.

- Intermittent misfire
- Visual inspection
- Ignition wire
- ASD relay output circuit
- Engine mechanical problem
- Ignition coil
- Coil control circuit
- Spark plugg
- Checking fuel pressure
- Fuel pump inlet strainer plugged
- Restricted fuel supply line
- Fuel pump module
- Checking fuel leak down
- Fuel injector
- Injector control circuit
- PCM
my scanner displays live data as well as enhanced data. mopar does not support mode $6 on 2000 model year vehicles. also, the fuel pump, strainer and filter were replaced as maint items in july. fuel pressure is within spec. wondering if anyone else has run into this or i may have to check with other techs on iatn or see if they are offering the 14 day free trial of identifix. as for the coil, thats why the dist was replaced...it is not servicable alone...only as a complete unit.
