I have an issue with the audio system in my car and was wondering if anyone has had a similar problem or has advice.
I was driving with the stereo on a medium/medium low volume when it the radio went out and was replaced by a siren or sorts. I waited about 20 seconds and then turned the power off. A minute later I turned it back on and the siren was still there (it could be heard from all speakers) at this point I left it on for about 45 seconds until I suspected a speaker blew due to a strong odor. I turned it off again and accidentally turned it back on hours later. Stereo was "okay" sounding but then I smelled that strong odor again. About a week or so later I turned it on to try to figure out if a speaker was blown and the radio sounds very staticy. I am not sure what went wrong with the audio system but I am trying to figure it out so I can get it replaced.

Also, would anyone know what size speakers are needed for this car or have any recommendations as to what to buy and have installed for the new audio system?

As I'm doing some searching on here about Infinity systems on here i came across your post.
I would have to suspect that its either the Infinity amp or the head unit. Reason being is that if a speaker went or is going you shouldn't hear that whine through out all the speakers.
Secondly in my '04 i have 6x9's in the rear deck and in the doors.
I've always been partial to Pioneer speakers.
