Default Poor mileage and gas smell...

Sorry for another noob question but I suppose not all of us here are mechanics.

Since purchasing my 2000 Stratus 2.4L six months ago I have been getting poor gas mileage (18 mpg) and now I am noticing a strong gas odor after driving it. I don't smell it inside the car, or in the parking lot after it has sat for a few days, so I don't think that this is a drip type leak but moreover something that happens while I am driving.

I've done multiple searches on the subject but wanted to ask here if this is possibly a common problem with the Stratus and if you can help to narrow down where I should look first?

Thank you in advance for any info.

sounds like you need a tune up. Gas smells usually come from gas that hasnt been burnt off all the way from bad spark plugs.
