2005 Dodge Stratus Hub/Bearing How-to
This procedure is a how-to on removing and replacing the hub/bearing assembly on a 2005 Dodge Stratus Sedan. I don't know what other years or if the coupes are the same. I recently did this to my wife's car and figured I would help those out who have to take this task on.
Tools required/recommended:
Jack and jack stands
Lugnut wrench (star or 19mm deep well socket)
Flathead screwdriver
Rubber mallet
3/8" Ratchets and various extensions and 1/2" ratchet
7mm allen wrench
18mm socket
E14 socket
32mm axle socket (can be rented)
Hub Bearing/Assembly Puller (can be rented, may or may not be needed)
Removal:
1. Park the car on a level surface and engage the parking brake (safety first)
2. Break the lug nuts loose (Do not remove yet)
3. Jack the car up (whichever side you are replacing) and place on jackstands
4. Removing loosened lug nuts and remove wheel and tire
5. Use the flathead screwdriver to remove the retaining clip for the brake pad
6. Use 7mm allen wrench to loosen/remove the (2) caliper bolts and remove the caliper. Use a wire hanger or bungee cord to tie up out of the way
7. Use the 18mm socket to remove the (2) bolts to the caliper bracket and remove. You can now remove the brake rotor and place aside.
8. Remove the 32mm axle socket.
9. You will need the special E14 socket to remove the (3) bolts holding the hub assembly to the steering knuckle. You may need to use a small extension to reach the bolt as the axle boot can get in the way.
10. Your may hub bearing assembly may fall off or come off with some assistance. If not, use the hub bearing/assembly puller to remove it. (I needed it for the driver's side but not the passenger)
Installation is the opposite of the removal process. The only added step is to push the piston pack into the caliper if needed so you can place the caliper back around the rotor.
If I left anything out, I will update or feel free to comment and I will update as needed.
