97 Stratus 2.5 engine runs rough, misfires driving
Got a new- to- me 97 Stratus with the 2.5 engine , i changed the crank sensor already , but it will take a spell of running rough, misfireing while going down the road ,it will do it hot sometimes cold , i checked the codes and all it pulls up is engine misfires 43 ; any ideas ? It idiles and runs good until it does this little spell, then will be fine again
I'm working on the same problem myself. Mine seems to be a short in the wire bundle going from the idle air control valve (IAC) to the air conditioning low pressure sensor. The short fried the powertrain control module (PCM).... so now there isn't a good 5-volt signal to the manifold air pressure (MAP) sensor...which is why I get the rough idle, occassional stalling & herky-jerky feel (like the ignition cutting out) every once in a while driving down the highway.
MORE INFO: Now that I'm peeling appart wires l see a basic design flaw on the Stratus' 2.5 V-6 engine. The large red power wire going from the alternator to the "+" terminal near the fuse block is bundled together with a bunch of other wires. This large red wire gets hot & melts the wires it is bundled with. In my case, I have 20-30 wires all sort of melted together. Once I find/fix my short I plan on routing this large red wire BY ITSELF and not putting it back into the wire bundle.
