Default '96 Stratus front door speakers (1st gen only please)

A buddy gave me a 1996 Dodge Stratus. I fixed it up a bit and gave it to my daughter. She went back to College and I've been using the Stratus for a while. The right front door speaker is blown and I'd like to change the front door speakers before she comes home for Thanksgiving.

Here's the thing, I have a decent pair of Sony 6.5" speakers. Looking at Crutchfield.com I see that 6.5" speakers will fit with some adapters. I definitely want to re-use the factory speaker covers. I'm wondering what size speakers others have used for their 1st Gen Stratus.

-Thanks, Ken

FWIW: I popped the grill covers and measured the speakers. They look to be 6.5" OD. But, of course, they only have (3) oddly spaced mounting tabs. I'll just pull the stock ones and see how the Sony speakers fit. If I can mount them securely, they are going in that car. Blown speakers suck...

they are 6.5 speakers. As you noted, they have a three hole mount, instead of 4 (hence the adapter). You should be able to just use self tapping screws to secure them to the doors sheet metal. Depending on the replacement speakers, you should double check the depth to make sure the window will clear the replacements.
