HELP! need stronger shocks 4 lowered sedan...
02 Stratus sedan 2.7L...
I lowered the car 1.8'' w/some canadian-made lowering springs. No idea what the spring rate is. Then, I replaced brand-new Monroe Sensa-Trac shocks w/ the KYB GR-2's, before testing the Sensa-Trac's out. Later I found out the GR2's are no stiffer than normal shocks.
Also, I took off the 15'' stock wheels w/ 205/60 tires, and put on 19'' rims w/ 235/35 tires.
Here's the problem:
tires are too wide and shocks are too weak. Every big bump causes severe tire rub. I'm talkin about, I can smell burning rubber every time I hit a big bump or hole. I've already blown out one of the tires, and they're $260 a piece !
A mechanic told me that the shocks are "too loose" and weren't installed properly. I said, "Great! Well, let's just tighten em up then." He said, "They can't be tightened any more. The only solution is to replace them."
Does anyone know about any stiffer/stronger shocks/struts that are out there? Or should I go back to some Monroe's?
Is it OK to drive on stock shocks w/ lowered springs?
Ideally, I want to cut off about 3/4'' from the top of these springs, so the tire takes up the entire wheel well. Maybe I'll have to camber the tires in a lil so they don't rub.
Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated. I'm all alone out here on this stuff, tryin to represent for these great-lookin Strat's, and nobody out here knows how to work on these things...

KYB AGX's are adjustable to a certain degree. KYB GR-2s are 15% stiffer than stock.
Stock shocks will blow out quickly with lowering springs.
You can have negative camber, but you will eat through tires.

I have B&G lowering coils on GR2 struts on my sedan. I have had no issues. If they weren't installed properly, that could be your whole issue. Another issue can be wrong offset wheels, wheels that are too wide/large, wrong tire size.
Lowering it more is only going to make your issue worse as more camber will bring the tire that much closer to whatever it is rubbing on.
Negative camber won't contribute much to tire wear as long as your alignment is correct otherwise. I have had many vehicles with negative camber, the only time I've had an issue was when I had it set up with positive toe along with the camber. That equaled tire destruction.
Welcome to the world of the sedan. They're a blast, and very unique when modded. Check mine out.
