Just got a 97 stratus with 111000 miles. The transmission downshifts realy hard causing a loud clunk to be heard. It shifts ok at highway speeds but around town it is more common(more shifting, slower speeds= louder clunk) My father told me it might be a computer issue. Is there a relearn program or a way to reset the computer. Or does it sound like i need a a new transmission.

 

have you checked fluid level? ,any idea when fluid and filter were changed?, you can try unhooking battery for at least 10 minutes to try and reset computer
