OEM VS. Phillips VS HID
Hey guys im new here and thought id post a comparison for those of you with questions about new headlight bulbs. Our bulb size is 9007 and there are a ton of options when it comes to upgrading the bulbs, you can stick with the OEM bulbs which are byfar the cheapest($5 a piece) or upgrade them to an aftermarket bulb such as sylvania, phillips,GE,etc or upgrade to HID's. Now as ive seen on here many people are against HID's without the proper projector retrofit, as am i, i ran plug n play HIDs in a few of my previous cars and never got flashed but i have driven against them and they do have a TON of glare, hince why i took them out and wont use again unless i have a projector. Anyways back to the topic, Im comparing three different bulbs, in the stock chrome housing, to show the difference between stock, upgraded, and HID.
First up are the HIDs, this is a plug n play 35w 5k kit, and trust me the bulbs are nothing near the blue the pics show, they are a crisp white with no blue.
Lots of glare but indeed very bright on the road, a kit like this would cost around $35 for a low beam and $60 for a lo/high kit. I would say these are 2nd best out of the three just because they are bright, but scatter the light everywhere and blind oncoming traffic.
Up next is the Phillips +80% that i picked up at napa for $65. These are my choice for halogen bulbs as they give a bright crisp light and last for quite a while(had mine in for over 1.5 years)
Here's the phillips +80(left) compared the the 5k HID(right)
As you can see its much sharper and cleaner looking then the PnP HID
Now here is the phillips+80(left) compared to the sylvania oem replacement bulb(right)
As you can tell its much brighter and more white then the replacement sylvania. This is the only photo i have of the replacement oem bulb(my appologies) but as you can tell the HID's and phillips both surpass the OEM bulb. Finally here is both bulbs replaced with Phillips+80, which is my everday setup
Always remember to aim your headlights correctly, you can find that out on youtube and i believe your owners manual shows you how as well.
I am new here but have been a car enthusiest since i was young. Automotive lighting is my specialty so please if you have any questions let me know!
