help starts runs dies wont start
my girlfriend has a 95 stratus es 2.5 l we bought it last year and when we first drove it off the lot it overheated before we got it home. the water pump was bad so i replaced it and while i had it apart the motor mount was also bad and i went ahead and replaced the timing belt then too. It's done well since then other than a leak in the radiator and replaced that last month. a few days ago she was running to subway and it died on her she thought it ran out of gas so i grabed a gas can and put gas in it. it started and then died. I gimped it home it kept dying but made it there. i did a code check and got 2 codes 11 and 17. it will start and idel for a bit then if u shift it into gear it dies. sometimes it will start right back up and sometimes it takes awhile.. any ideas??? please
It could be any number of sensors. The problem you'll run into is that the '95 is NOT ODBii, but rather ODB1, with what is now the standard ODBii port.
The codes you have are
11: Timing belt skipped 1 tooth or more from initial learned value, Intermittent loss of either camshaft or crankshaft position sensor, No crank reference signal detected during engine cranking
17: Closed loop temp not reached or engine cold too long
So, it seems like either the timing belt is slipped, or the cam/crank sensors have failed.
And, the thermostat may be stuck open, keeping the engine from getting up to temperature.
