01 Stratus timming issue
2.4 liter DOHC 01 Stratus
what if you didnt set tdc before removing timing belt? I have the crank at tdc center now, but the cam sprockets are 180 degress off.The arrows on the sprockets are facing down. How do i turn them without bending a valve and get correct timing?
I was thinking about putting the belt on and spinning the crankshaft until the camshafts lined up with the arrows facing up. Then removing the belt and spinning the crankshaft back to TDC..Would that work?2.4 liter DOHC 01 Stratus

You are obviously going to have issues with the pistons and valves touching while trying to get your gears back in place. Turn your crank 90 degrees either way of the timing mark. That should get your pistons half way down so you can move your cams.
When you time the marks back up, the cams need to be perfectly level with each other. The crank mark will be slightly past the mark (between 1/4 tooth-1/2 tooth) with the cams in time.
NEVER force the gears at any time while you're moving them if you feel contact.
