Default So today my car got whacked

Today on my way to work I was rear ended by a guy in a Suburban. The ground was wet and there was a MORON in front of me who was too busy talking on the cell phone to get out and let people know his truck was out of gas.

Fortunately, I drive a 5spd and I wasnt holding the brakes when I got hit. I think that actually prevented a lot more damage then I actually got. As it is, I'm definitely going to need a new rear bumper cover and rear bumper. I am not going to settle for anything less then new parts.

Unfortunately, it sounds worse then it looks, but let's be honest, those are usually the worst kind of accidents.

The 1st picture shows you the entire impact. The 2nd picture, due to being white paint, doesnt show up very well. The entire plastic in that area is cracked/spiderwebbed. It has to be replaced

For the record, I am actually more pissed off with the idiot on the cell phone then I was at the guy who hit me. He's in my neighborhood and was really cool about the whole situation.

really cool about the whole situation as in he's going to pay for the repairs? Honestly I cannot see the cracks, but cant you just replace the license plate housing? Seems there wasnt much damage to the rest of the bumper. If its all one piece then yea get it replaced i guess

It's a solid piece of plastic all the way across. Once the plastic is cracked, its toasted. Also, with the airbag sensors and the other pieces underneath that may be damaged, it's hard to say what is or isnt broken/busted/bent/okay.

The guy seemed like a decent guy and the insurance company is already aware of the situation. I would let him just pay for it if he wanted to, because he's got plenty of money.

i was bumped in traffic, and i got almost a grand for the damages, but mine was so slight, that i didnt even get ti fixed..it is BARELY noticable..much less than yours..it chipped the paint in a space sort of under the tag border, maybe 1cm by 1cm...and it creased the plastic..didnt crack the paint, but sort of dented the plastic..but i had better ways to spend a thousand dollars...

I got hit by a 1980's model Chevy Suburban doing about 15-20mph. The outside damage looks very very mild compared to what you would think from being hit by a "tank". My only concern is what the damage looks like underneath the bumper cover.

I got the initial estimate done today by a Dodge Dealership.

Roughly $884 for the OEM bumper replacement, paint, and labor. That doesnt include anything that MAY still be damaged underneath the bumper. It doesnt look super bad but since his insurance company is paying for it, I am going to go ahead and get it fixed back to normal. The body shop manager said worst case scenario is about $1600. The plastic is bowed and the sidewalls on the license plate area is spiderwebbed.

I would love to take that kind of cash and do more to the car. However, I don't think I will get a check cut to me. It's State Farm and they have a tendency to be jacka$$e$.

If they do cut me a check for the damage, I will probably pull the rear bumper off myself and have everything checked out. Probably replace the crumple zone foam and then take the rest of the cash and have some stuff done for the car.

Either way, I just want my baby fixed.
