My girlfriend's 2000 stratus is missing the button on her shifter that stops it from shifting into reverse while moving.

bumped it into reverse at 70+ on cruise control, it revved to about 7000 for a second then died and coasted to a stop. We didn't hear a loud noise no bang pop or anything like that it just turned itself off. Now when I turn the key it turns over and that's it. All lights in the cluster work it just won't start.

Still getting fuel.
Still getting spark.

The car is on the side of the freeway, does anyone know of a safety feature I shoud be looking for? (keep in mind I still have spark)

you might try unhooking the battery for 5 or 10 minutes and see if that helps ,as far as I know dodge didn't really have any safety features that need resetting , hopefully nothing was damaged

 

thought of that, unhooked the batt for about 30 seconds and nothing but ill give it another shot and wait 10 mins.

I've got oil on the plugs big time so I have a feeling the motor is trashed.
