Default Rear Strut Troubleshoot / advice

2002 , 127000 mile, noticed the passenger side rear, top of the strut started to make a thumping noise inside the trunk area , the bushing and shaft while the car is level on the ground is NOT compressed. While the driver side bushing is still compressed.
All parts under the car are intact, no piston leaks.

A. Is it possible for the shaft to have comes loose inside the piston?
B. Is this just a normal type of failure for a strut in general?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Mike.

if you have a sedan kind of normal dodge had a problem with the rear mounts disintegrating ,strut will have to be compressed to replace mount ,doubtful the shaft loose inside piston there around 30-40 dollars at dealer for just mount ,autozone around same price but includes bushings

Ty Billz,

Ordered a kit to replace mount/bushings and a compressor. Just waiting for them to arrive. Free shipping was to hard to pass up. Will post what I find and my solution.

Thanks again,

Mike.

Bills,

The bushings were the exact problem, the most of the rubberized parts to the spring and to the underside of the mount itself are gone or almost gone. Appears the previous owner replaced only the main bushing above the mounting brackets.

Fixed it.

Thanks again,

Mike.
