Hey there, i'm new here. I have 2005 Stratus with 2.4L Vin (J). The motor needs to be replaced. The closest 2.4 J engine is about $1200, where I can find a bunch of 2.4 Vin (X) motors for about $500.

How are these engines different? Can I use the 2.4 Vin X? Thoughts?

 

it would probably cost more in long run to go with cheaper engine the "j" is a pzev(partial zero emissions only used in about 10-15 percent of vehicles in '05 ) engine different emission setup then the "x"(no egr valve uses a secondary air pump instead , plus having to reprogram the ecm if its possible or replacing ecm

 

That's what I was afraid of, and sort of hoping that It was matter of bolt on items I could swap
