i have a 1996 Dodge Stratus sedan 2.oL 5 speed manual transmission with 140 thousands of miles. my question is would it be worthing putitn money into the engine? or would i have to buy a completly differnt engine. Also i want to know the earlyest year they came out with the r/t model, and would that engine fit in my stratus. thanks for the help

You can get a 2.4L really cheap and it will bolt right up with little effert. You would go from 131 hp 128 tq. to 150 hp and 167 tq. low end torque will be much better. The R/T didn't show up untill the 2nd gen.

for one a stratus isnt a grocery getter...thats the minivans job...
2 if you plan on keeping the 2.0....there's some things you can do....but don't.
Get the 2.4 you can pick them up cheap. out of totaled Stratus R/T Sedans of the 2nd gen. they are cheaper than trying to get one out of an SRT-4. or if you want the whole SRT-4 Turbo setup...get an engine out of a Totaled PT GT same thing... just not all flashy like the SRT so it'll be cheaper... so get the 2.4 then build it up like the SRT-4 Owners do... you'll have like 500 hp if you drop...10-15grand.... cheaper?

about 5 grand plus engine equals inbetween 200-300ish hp...and close range with tq... and it will HAUL ***.
