Default 2002 Stratus Code P0601 - inconclusive research

I pulled the Codes for my 2002 Stratus; there were two - P1684 and P0601. The former was easy enough to figure out as I had recently reconnected the battery. The latter, indicates a problem with the PCM. From what I've read a code P0601 while meaning a problem exists with the PCM, the owners have had different experiences.

For some, their cars ran terribly - or not at all - and the PCM was now an electronic paperweight. For others, the owner (says) drove the car for years and while the CEL was on and they continued to get this code, they drove the car without any trouble and it drove fine. I have also read that the dealer can reprogram the unit and I also read the unit is trashed and needs replacement.

Before I shell out cash for a new one I wanted to get some opinions. Which is it; either the car runs with no problems or the PCM is in fact, junk. How could the same problem with the same component cause a car to run fine sometimes and either cause it to run badly or TKO the whole system in others?

why and how long was battery disconnected ,is it fully charged now, that code is impossible to tell outcome could run forever or be a paperweight depending on what check sum value is wrong(try searching online for "control module checksum error" will explain it better then i can),i would check all your connections battery, tps, cam and crank shaft position sensors , pcm ,dodge had an issue with a lot of pcm's and this code (bad parts), usually only way to make go away is to replace pcm
