Solenoid pack or gasket?
Hi folks..just joined and am so glad this time/money saving and teaching tool is here...Have a 2000 stratus and love the power and handling of this little car.
My question Before venting about the dealer is
Does this car have a separator plate on the solenoid pack?
Found a replacement gasket online but found when checking order status that it is only for "newer solenoid WITHOUT separator plate."
problem STARTED with smoke from under hood back between engine and fire wall on driver side.. Research hinted possible power steering hose since it was a recall, but first i replaced the valve cover gasket since it's said to be a known issue..So after doing that I took to dealer for hose recall and half way home (15 minutes) noticed MORE smoke than before so looked and it was coming up from the PASSENGER side behind the steering fluid reservoir...Figured they may have spilt some and was just burning off so continued home...next day same thing so took it back to ask if they may have left something loose.? was told i had to leave the car there because they were so busy...Well before I made it home (30 minutes) i got an estimate (over $800) in my e-mail that stated;
oil change $32.95
wiper blades $48.95
check engine light $99.95
valve cover gasket $159.00
solenoid pack $467.80
I had just changed oil 2 weeks prior and wiper blades were 3 months old.
Oil leak (if there is one) may be that i kinked the valve cover gasket or fearful of stripping did not tighten the bolts enough...As far as the "check engine light" do ya think maybe fixing the issues and seeing if light goes off is prudent? Just rhetorical about dealer..Know they need to make a living but that is a lot when auto parts check for free.
Anyway I hope you can enlighten me on if this Solenoid pack has that plate. Was only $9.98 inc. shipping so no biggie there ...just if it's NOT the correct one FINDING one and waiting is the issue...
Thanks for the patience through this long post but wanted to be thorough with what's going on...Your insight will be greatly appreciated...
