Having more experience the 4th gen mini-vans, I learned quickly that as the electronics were added, having good grounds became much more imperative. They're also more sensitive to having good batteries and alternators than the older vehicles. There are several guys in one of the van forums I belong to that have done something similar to what you did and added ground straps from the block to chassis and regularly maintain the factory ground points.

As for the Intrepid, the big dogger for them was the 2.7l motor. Bad reputation for sludging that will cause the motor to fail. I looked at a really nice Intrepid but it had the 2.7 and the owner was clueless about the car. I was dismayed when I opened the hood and saw the 2.7 in it, and when we started it up it was clacking like a bastard - probably a bad rod bearing.

Good to know; I'll troll for those write-ups. My Dad has a '95 and now '99 Caravan. I am going to have a good look at those setups. The '95 has the Mitsubishi 3.0 but the '99 has the Mopar 3.3. I still remember an old diesel to gas VW Rabbit conversion I did. Car sat for years, and I was getting some bizarre voltage reading at the main fusebox, like 4V or something. Turns out it was the ground at the tranny. You can't really predict how bad grounds will manifest,

So...there was a bit more to this story after all. Problem came back and became more persistent; at one point it wouldn't start at all. The negative switched control circuits for the fuel pump and ASD relays were not functioning (circuits 74 & 67 at PCM). Those are probably connected internally within the PCM, thus they fire together. Tested both wires for shorts to ground in case something shorted the PCM; no shorts found. Got a used PCM from Pick N' Pull for $50. Car likes it fine and no stalling since. So there you go.
