Question AC - Air conditioner compressor runs by itself!!!

Hi, I own a Dodge Stratus 1999, 2.5 V6.
I start the car and after 20 seconds the compressor clutch activates and runs the AC for about 30 seconds (very noisy), every time I start the car. During normal run the AC compressor goes on and of every 5 minutes or so. All this happens with the AC swith in OFF position.

I disconnected the AC compressor plug and it stopped working at all, which is a relief, I started believing it was alive.

That said I now know it is a electrical or electronic problem.

Anyone with a similar situation?

Thanks,
Ernesto.

Could be completely normal. Some vehicles compressors run based on ambient humidity levels regardless of dial position.

Thumbs up [Solved] AC / Air conditioner compressor runs by itself!!!!

You were right, it was the air flux selector in "defrost" position.
I've re-connected the AC compressor and it doesn't engage at car start, just when I explicitly push the button.

Thank you very much.

It is my understanding that the compressor act as a humidifier or should say dehumidifier to help defog your windshield after you first start you car so I would think that would be normal provider it only runs for a brief moment now the noise is probably an indication that the pump or clutch on the compressor is bad or going bad
