Default 1997 Stratus (2.4L) Intake Air Temperature (IAT) Sensor/Mass Airflow (MAF) Sensor.

My mother has a 1997 Stratus with the 2.4L engine. Her Check Engine light has come on recently with no obvious reason (not running rough or anything). Codes are P1456 and P0112 and the mechanic mentioned the Intake Air Temperature (IAT) Sensor.

My Haynes repair manual mentions that the IAT for this particular model and engine is built into the Mass Airflow (MAF) Sensor. I had hoped that this would be a simple $15-25 part (IAT) swap out but my Google search this afternoon left me wondering.

Do I:

1) Swap out the MAF ($60+)?

2) Clean the MAF with MAF cleaner ($10)?

3) Clean it with carb/choke cleaner (which I have)?

4) [Unknown option.]

Anyone have any history or knowledge about this?

Thanks in advance.
