3.0L from a stratus in a 03 neon
hey guys and gals,
yeah you read it right. i am looking to put a 3.0L in my 03 neon strickly for race. my main questions are how much space does the 3.0L take up under the hood including the tranny, how long the drive shafts are, and around how much i would be looking at for a wiring harness. I hope to get some good feedback from this side of the forum. sofar i have gotten great reviews from the neon side are looking forward to seeing a finished productoking forward to seeing a finished product.

so the length of the motor is the same from spindle to spindle ( for the most part and at best guess )? i would just need to make room from front to bck in the engine bay? does anyone have any over head shots of under the hood and some from underneath so i can get an idea of where teh motor mounts are at? also any body with a 2.7 your input is welcome too, have been told that the 2.7 will work better.
IF I understand you correctly, your idea is not one of my first choices.
First off, my Stratus 3.0 is a SOHC Mitsu motor, and very little is available for it in the upgrade department. However the 3.0 DOHC used in the 3000GT is a different beast, and I think can be found with twin turbos attached. (YeeHa!)
If overall power is your goal, the SOHC is the wrong motor. Look instead to the DOHC or the Mitsu 2.4,( which I believe is the bored version of Mitsus famous 2.0 DOHC). There you start with a stock 200hp and the sky is the limit. (I have read of owners nearing 400hp on the 2.0, so assume the 2.4 is equally as capable?)

I need to back up here, caus I know so little about the Neon or Chrysler hardware.
The Neon is basicly a Chrysler built car, and dropping a Mitsubishi motor into it may be more trouble than it is worth. Perhaps a dodge engine like the 2.7 will be a easier matchup, but I dont know how far up the power range you can take them.
The 2.0 Mitsu turbo can be found in then Mitsu Eclipse and Galants of the early to mid 90s
The 3.0TT is out there in junk yards waitning to be found...
