My new 2005, weee
So, I've been getting a chance to drive it more...and I've been realizing things that just kind of stick out. I get a knock noise when I make braking right turns, sounds like off the steering/braking part of the whole system, unclear exactly, but only so far on braking right.
when sitting idle, in gear at least, when the electric fans come on, you know that sound when someone with bass pulls up behind you, and it kind of resonates in your car, well it sounded deep and rough like that, maybe the engine idling low and the combination of that turning on, not sure, i'm not used to these low idle engines yet, heh. my wife's neon, you'll know when the electric fans turn on too when the engine gets a little kick too, so i'm thinking this is normal
when idling too, i noticed a little tap coming from the engine, normal? I mean, it's all clean other then that, rollout, except when braking, when i come to a stop, i feel it jerk a bit, like shifting, kind of freaky.
was wondering if i should even worry at this point..or take and get my warranty some work.
thanks in advance.
2005 Silver Stratus SXT, 2.6L V6, 19.6k mi, one previous owner, rental car company out of Omaha. All green a clear on carfax. got the extended warranty for 7yr/75kmi, just I guess to help, hahah. Is that all that is needed? heh
oh and for oils and such, what should I use? I know it needs 5w-20, i want to use valvoline or something simliar, since new at shopping, haven't taken my numbers off the book in yet with me. i asked the dealer about synthetics and all, with no reply yet though book said ok, but making sure, need to waste money on yet or let get more milage first? asked about gas too, said just use 87, as the manual states.
when i drive up to iowa in two weeks, their 87 has 10% ethanol in it, best way to work that in/out
some questions the book sorta answered and all, but was unclear.

I have a 04 stratus sedan sxt with the v6 motor. Also former dodge tech. The poopping noise your hearing on turns and braking is your strut towers there is a tech bulletin for this to add pop rivets to them to elimenate the noise. Course when it comes to replacing struts in the car down the road I don't know if this complicates things. On oil I would recommend synthetic oil due to the build up of sludge in the motor from conventional oils. I have seen cars with 36000 miles on them needing motors cause the person used conventional oils. As far as the harsh downshifts my care does this as well. natural features of the v6 motor. The resonating feature you have I can't say I've heard of this or even had the this happened to me. Smart choice on the extended warranty!!
Alright, thanks for your input, I appreciate it. I've been taking all I can get, and doing what I can with what I got before the money depletes for the year, haha.
So I was going to start a new thread on this, but I guess I'll just use my old post, and not tie up the forums much, lol, so here is what I have done in the last week....
So, what I did, I went and got my paint coating and undercoating last Thursday. While I was there, prior to going, I printed a list of muffler shops, and was calling them. All of them wouldn't take my car for 24 hours, well, I'm on a tight shift that week, and I kept trying. I went and talked with the accessory<sp> guy that was trying to sell me an alarm/spoiler/tint when I first got it, and told him my inquiry. He said he knew a guy, and would get his number. I get it, and I call him explain getting undercoating, wondering if he'd still work on, and he said yes, no problem! SWEET. I get down there, he shows me under the car some things he has in mind. First he mentioned taking the resonator off and going back to a flowmaster with a chrome tip, LOL. He really liked mentioning that 10.00 Chrome tip, oh well, anyways, I was kind of hesitant, didn't know what to think, thought, maybe might be too loud, and then the wife will really be pissed at me, heh. So he says, leave resonator on, put muffler and tip on, you drive a bit, and see how it sounds, want louder, come back, 25.00 take off resonator, I said ok and we're off. It gets down on the ground, they start it up, and I was already drooling, it sounded so good, or maybe just my inability of being around other kind of cars, heh, j/k (I like good guys car show that comes here to kansas speedway every year, I hear a lot of them loud *** headers and v8's to which I really like, and I tried to model this to that sound) It really does sound like a stock exhaust on a truck, I really like it!!!
BTW, what kind of motor? Sounds american made to me, yeah! heh, don't know, anyways, it sounds really awesome so just wondered. Also, what is up with the twists and turns on the intake on the top. almost looks, TURBO-Y heh, which was another eye catcher to me. anyways off track!
So I got that done, then while I was doing that, I called around for a K&N filter (oil/air) had one put on order and delivered to Advance Auto Parts while I waited, when got done, went and got it, is that ever a PITA to install an air filter....So got that done, and then got the oil filters. Went to my favorite place, wally world, lol, and got 4 individual quarts of Mobile1 5w-20, and realized they don't have a 5th, so went back to Advance. So got all this one....
Prior to me doing all of this, I filled up, and then decided to refill again when it was half full, and found out roughly 20mpg on a mixed travel. After doing all of this, I have now got 21.77mpg which is roughly 28.32 miles per tank increase, it's AWESOME! I'm glad I did the work I did....I wonder what a straight freeway travel is going to show, planning for spring/summer trips around this region.
I haven't heard the rough idle come back from the cooling fans yet, so I'll keep my ears peeled when I can hear over the exhaust and radio, LOL'
I have the paper somewhere, but just in case, do these radios come with a small sub? I swear, the bass this system puts out is awesome! I'll sit and listen to a song that my 6x9 pioneers couldn't bump as hard on, and the car is shaking from the bass....i was like, whoa, that's awesome!!!!
I like the word awesome tonight, and this last 2 weeks, I can't say enough, I'm so happy with it right now....
UGH< going on and on as usual, sorry for the boredom just in case, alright, i'll be around, l8r

ok, I got two VIP summary reports too on the vehicle. One is like explaining the previous owner and the warranties. This other one is explaining how it's equipped and all.
One of them I think is rather cool, is the daytime (or as they are, all the time) running lights. lock up torque converter...beneficial/standard? heh under optional, just trying to understand my vehicle, lol, 2.7L V6 DOHC 24 valve MPI Engine, customer preferred package 2dy and 28y, hmmm, i hope that "preferred" is the sub, b/c other then that, all i see is 4 speaker system, lol....but I don't know if it is even a sub, it sure kicks like one, could have fooled me. i rented one last summer and swore it had one too, maybe just because new radio, something i'm not used to, lol....
