Default Timing belt condition, about R/T, RPM range

Timing Belt -
My wife's 2001 stratus, we bought used with 84,000 miles. 86,000 miles now.
I have NO service records. I am a tad concerned about the timing belt on this engine, as if it goes, it can take some valves with it.
SO, for ANY timing belt, can one assume the belt is going to last a while if it looks good? I pulled the covers, and it looks good from what little I can see, but do timing belts even show signs of wear? ALL but one of my cars (a 1989 Reliant) had chains, so I have little experience with them. What to do here? I don't want to go doing unnecessary repairs.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

3.0 - what is it? My wife's car has a 3.0 engine, and supposedly, it is an "SE". I always thought the 3.0 was an R/T? The car is not super or turbo charged.
What makes a stratus an R/T? One thing about my wife's car, it is not real fast, my 1999 Buick Lasabre will run circles around it.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

RPM range - When this stratus is doing about 75 MPH (the legal highway speed in Colorado) the RPM's run about 2700. The wheels are stock. It seems a little high, especially my car runs about 2200 RPM's at 75 MPH. Maybe i should not compare a GM to a Dodge...

Anyways, thought about any of the subjects posted above?

ok..a few things then.

first, her engine is a 6g72 mitsubishi motor...it came predminantly in the RT, but it is my udnerstanding that it is in some non-RTs (obviously, seeing as you have one)...i have also been told that the non-RTs have a bit less power. the timing belt is supposed to be changed at 60,000 miles, but in the manual, it lists the timing belt job at 100,000 miles as well, and next to that, it has some comment about how it "has to be done now, it not done at 60,000"....typically, you can tell the condition of a belt by taking a good look at it, but i dont know what i woudl trust that with a timing belt.

with the RPM range, i havent driven my car since october, so i dont recall off the top of my head where the rpm range should be at the various speed range.

and as for a lesabre being faster than it, i would have to see that to believe it. my college roommates sueprcharged buick is only good for 16.0s, with a professional driver...my car ran 16.1 with a trunk full of stereo equipment and tools, so with a far more powerful engine, he wasnt barely any faster, and the RT manual trans models have run 15.6s out of the box...so unless her Stratus is not running properly, or your buick is blown and built...i cant see it running circles around anything...a lesabre..thats a four door, right? similar to my roommates regal?
