Default 2.7 knock sensor not under warranty? $1750

I am the owner of a 2004 Certified used Dodge Stratus ES with the 2.7 v6.

It has the 8/80 certified poewrtrain warranty. My check engine light came on about a week ago, and I stopped into the dealership as soon as possible to have them run an OBD scan.

The dealership told me that they will not just run an OBD test, that the car has to be checked in for a 120 point inspection. If the problem is covered under warranty, no diagnostic fees apply; otherwise, I will be out the $ for repairs and diagnostics.

I walked away and went to the parts store, had them run the test and it came up with "knock sensor".

I then talked to the dealership and they are telling me that a knock sensor is not covered under warranty, as it is considered an external component

I reset the computer, after about 1 mile of driving the check engine light came back on.

I took it in to the dealer for diagnosis, they say that the knock sensor went bad. They say that this sensor is considered an "External Accessory" so they will not cover it. The part is a little over $100. The estimated bill is $1,750.00 including labor!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How is a sensor that requires an engine rebuild to get to considered external?

How do I appeal to make a warranty claim?

Does anyone here have an electronic copy of the Certified Pre-owned warranty you can e-mail me? I cannot get ahold of anyone at the dealership willing to help me out.

Any other advice?
