Someone please tell me why my stratus isnt shiftint out of first gear...it kinda seems like its a speed sensor problem......cuz nothing is wrong with my tranny...I mean..sometimes it works fine..then sometimes it will just fall in neutral then first and stay in first....anyone?? and can I fix this myself? thanks

 

First of all, check the PCM for codes. It could be a bad sensor or the tranny computer.

 

excuse my ignorance here...but..PCM?? what do I do with the codes?

 

If it is intermittently not working and sometimes shifts OK my guess is going to be TCM, I've seen more than a few cause that exact problem. BTW it's not stuck in 1st it's stuck in 2nd.

 

Interesting....2nd eh?....is that like when the car goes into limp mode? And do you think its gonna be spendy??...I dont have alot ot spend on it. but I really appreciate you helpin

 

It is exactly limp-in. Anytime ANYTHING goes wrong with that box, electrical or mechanical it goes to 2nd, that is the only gear that requires no electrical to engage. Like I said sounds like TCM-they run about 150.00 not too bad but dealer needs to program VIN and pinion factor-sorry, gonna have to pay them to at least program it.
