Default Styrofoam?

What's up with the styrofoam behind the lower half of the front grill on 03+ Stratus R/T's? Is it safe to remove it? Does it serve a purpose?

Thanks.

most new cars have "impact foam" behind the front fascia, and between the fascia and the metal bracing. its in the back, too...and pretty much every vehicle with a plastic fascia in place of a metal bumper has that there.

My only concern with removing it is does it effect the airbags at all? That's the only reason mine is still intact. They don't make a manual for 03+ Strat's yet so I can't be sure.

technically, that stuff is there to absorb the shock, but i know that some people have at least cut it up a bit to install neons.
