97 stratus with coolant loss
I have a 97 stratus and I have a continual problem with coolant loss. I've taken it in and the explanation I got was a relief that wouldn't seat. Didn't make a whole bunch of sense since it should relieve to somewhere other than atmosphere but I'm no mechanic. Is there anything else I can check that might make this simpler?
why not try dumpin some coolant system stop leak in? .........worth a try incase the "releaf that wouldn't seat" is a farce.
my car also used to go through quit a bit.........i poured some stop leak in and i was amazed that it worked, hop it works out for you.

I have to disagree withy Ice man, I would never use stop leak in a cooling system except in an emergency to get you to a shop and have your radiator properly repaired or replaced, (and even then get it flushed out of everything afterwards).
With your comment of “coolant lossâ€, you don’t say if you are seeing it on the ground, or are just having to constantly add more due to low levels.
The relief that they mentioned is simply the radiator cap. It has a relief valve built into it that opens when pressure gets too high inside the radiator. Directly under the cap should be a small tube that runs to a coolant reservoir. This is where the overflow should normally be stored
You should make sure the reservoir is not over filled.
If your levels are constantly going down, but you see no coolant on the ground, you will need to check for a cracked head or blown head gasket.

Most garages can put a dye in it and use a light to see the leak. You can buy the dye and light and do it yourself. I have used stop-leak before. It makes the car run hotter and is only a temp fix. You will have to address this leak sooner or later.
I had a leak on my Dakota. I replaced the radiator because the leak was in that area. It turned out that my resevior had a crack in the side and was my actual leak.
Also you can pressure test the system with a inexpensive pump and gage from your autoparts store. (or have it done at a garage) This will make the leak more noticable.
