Starter motor stays engaged while car is running
What kind of dodge do you have?
Sounds like the starter engagement signal is not being interrupted by turning your key from start back to run...Or the starter could be malfunctioning. Easy way to figure it out is to pull out the starter and watch it while someone starts it. ( depending on your vehicle, the starter's grouding point is the engine block. you might have to install a grouding strap to the starter and clamp it to a clean metal surface on the block) Be careful not to touch the starter while you engage it, you might complete the circuit and shock yourself. if you see the starter spline still spinning when you turn the key back to run, disconnect the power and check the wiring with a multimeter. Careful, you have lots of Amps going through the big positive lead. Best bet would be to go buy a servicing manual so you know which wires you need to check. They have a complete wiring diagram for the vehicle and a maintenance troubleshooting section. If the wiring checks good, replace the starter.
Let me know how you did. [8D]
