01 Stratus locked in 2nd gear
My wife's 01 stratus lit up the C/E lite, and will only do Reverse and 2nd gear. Only code to come up with the key was p0700. Local talent figured an input speed sensor, since the speedo and door locks worked. For $17 I put one in and cleared the battery. No new codes (other than battery disconnected) But, still stuck in 2nd gear, with no C/E lite. Limped it to a local dealer, who scanned the system (No charge, no kidding!!) , and gave me the good news...EATX control no good...$510 over the counter. 2 different dealers claim there is no rebuilt unit available yet. Ordered it and am waiting. Meantime, does this sound familiar to anyone? Misery loves company
Well I had my TCM replaced.
At least that's what I think they did. The invoice from the transmission shop says "solenoid motor replaced" with a price of 130. for the part and 70. for labor.
But it still suddenly goes into limp mode! If I shut the car down and restart it, it goes away!
Any ideas anybody

Your car's a '95, so I'm not sure how the tranny is controlled when compared to the 01. $130 for a TCM ( is this "Transmission Control Module"?) installed seems dirt cheap. Like I said earlier, the '01 EATX is $510, and that is NOT installed. Check wih your dealer to see if '95's had input and output speed sensors. If it does, and the speedo still works after it drops into limp mode, it may be the input sensor. However, I'm no Dodge tranny expert, I just picked up this grain of knowledge a few days ago. Good luck...
Replaced the tranny control module...total $600, included $500 for the controller, plus tax and an hour to "quick learn" the controller (I guess this is akin to downloading software...), and included some sort of purge of the solenoids...not sure I understand that, but bottom line, this has done the trick, the car shifts beautifully. And I'm told that the controller has a 36 mos 36,000 mile warranty. Next new car I buy will probably include some sort of extended warranty purchase, too!!
