Like I attempted to point out, a pyrometer for measuring tread temp is by far the more accurate that use of a rollover mark, so if your tires are tuned for even temps across the width, then stick to your guns, as you cand dial them in any better than that.
The rollover concept is a simple way to help those without hightech hardware get thier tires dialed a bit closer to optimal rather than relying on generic pressure settings.

you can pick up a cheap themometer at the local drug store. the kind you put in kid's ears and get a reading in about 1 sec. pretty cheap nowdays. readings aren't race ready but close enough for everyday driving.

as for max tire press go with what's on the side of the tire with tires COLD like b-52 said. happy motoring.
