Default lowering springs question

hey, i have an 01 R/T, now i know everyone is going with that eibach pro kit. im also seeing a lot of other kits on ebay for the elcipse that are a fraction of the cost of the pro kit. i know a lot between the eclipse and stratus r/t are the same, I know eibach is one of the best if not the best, are these other kits good as well for the stratus?

Default RE: lowering springs question

I would be incredibly leary about buying a cheaper kit as far as springs go. With Eibach the ride quality is still good, and from what I have experienced thus far and have read, you won't blow out your struts. The cheater way for making lowering springs is either a) cut an inch off of your springs, cheaper but can't be good for driveablilty, and b) heat your springs and compress them (I could be wrong, but I don't think this method can be good for your struts) because when you heat a spring you also weaken it. These really cheap kits probably do one of these two things. When I was looking for springs, I found a lot on ebay for less then a hundred bucks, but some reading on the 3g eclipse forum should find you enough horror stories about using cheap springs. The best rule of thumb, "If it seems to good to be true, it probably is!" There is probably a reason you don't see any of the users here listing XXX springs, instead everyone has eibach, and there arn't any complaints.
