so these damn HAYNES manuals are of no help to me right now...... my check engine light came on and i need to know how to check the codes... the book just says turn the key ON OFF ON OFF ON it does not tell me if i have 2 put a ire from any point to anypoint in the pcm hook up that is in the passeners area... any help would be greastly appreciated.... i dont have the money to go and buy an OBD 2 scanner and i would like to get this done now sinc ei have the most time right now to work on my car.

 

if their is an auto zone or advanced auto parts store close to you they will check your codes for free

 

ok so i went to autozone and it turns out it is my o2 sensor... the one b4 my cat.... anywho 2 and a half hours after i went there the i went home and got up again to go to work and the damn check engine light turned off.... if my o2 sensor was really bad enought to sert off the check engine light wouldn't it stay on till had a new one put in and then went and had the code erased?

 

I hear that the check engine light will check and reset itself if no problem is found withing 50 miles or so. I can't verify this though.

 

It actually resets after 3 "good trips", dont exactly remember what qaulifies as a "good trip" but i know you gotta go a certian speed, hit a certian rmp and other things in 3 different trips for the light to clear. It happens to me all the time, b/c i have a renegade check engine light
