MALFUNCTION INDICATOR

MALFUNCTION INDICATOR
I accidentally left my gas cap off after fueling my 2001 Dodge Stratus and didn't realize it until my Malfunction Indicator lit on my dash. I have replaced the cap but the indicator remains lit. Is there something I have to do to clear the indicator or will it do so on its own? Thanks in advance for your help.

RE: MALFUNCTION INDICATOR
Mark...
If you disconnect the battery for 15 minutes or so, that should reset the light...you may however get a code for battery disconnected after you do so. However, that code should disappear after 50 consecutive key on /key off cycles, as long as you don't unhook the battery within those 50 cycles. IF it still doesn't clear, then you'll need to have the dealer clear it with the "magic box" there may be underlying codes/problems.
Hope this helps
Doug
PS On our 01, you can cycle the key on off, on off, on and where the digital odometer is at, certain codes will pop up there digitally...kinda cool, FYI

RE: MALFUNCTION INDICATOR
Thanks for your help Doug. Fortunately, the light extinguished on its own. I was thankful because I didn't realize how much of a pain it was to get to the battery on this car. Whoever designed that needs a urinalysis test. Anyways, all is well again with the Stratus. Thanks again for your expert help and hope you had a blessed 4th of July weekend.
