Default Wet Interior

Hello everyone. I'm new to the forum as a member, but I've been reading along for a few weeks now. I have a 2001 Silver Dodge Stratus RT Coupe, manual transmission. All in all she's been a great car with only a few minor repairs needed. However, now I notice that when it rains the driver's side floorboard gets soaking wet. (Yes, the sunroof is closed and the windows are up). Nothing else in the interior feels wet or looks wet, no signs of water leaking in. This has gone on a couple of weeks now. Now I noticed that, once again when it rains, my passenger side floor board feels slightly damp as well.

Anyone have any ideas as to where the water is coming from? My car is beginning to smell a bit mildewy! Thanks!

Seeing that you have identified that this happens only when it rains, then you most likely have a leaking windshield. Was it replaced recently?
The door seals should be looked at too, but you say it is getting to both sides after a while, so I’m reluctant to think that is the problem. Beyond that, maybe a plug in the firewall has come out and letting water splash up against the backside of the carpet?

Now, another thought just hit me… When it rains, do you turn on your heat? If so, perhaps you have a leaking heater core.

Do not know if you still have the car, but its most likely the sunroof drains. They drain down the pillars into a rail on the side of the seat. If you pull the rug up you will notice a wiring harness that is clipped into the rail. As the rail goes towrds the front the harness is clipped on using rubber clips. The water usually leaks out of these holes. What you need to do is remove the mud flaps if you have them, then remove the inner wheel well so that you can see into the door. Stick a angle panel remove or something to pry down on. You will notice the water start to pour out. What happens is the rocker panel somehow gets pushed up into the body a hair. That covers the hole from the rail that drains the water from the sunroof. You will notice holes in the mud flaps as well. It should not take you more that 20 minutes a side with only a panel remover to remove the push pins in the wheel well.

Just had a similar problem fixed on my 2004 R/T. Had a leak in the sunroof drain and a leak in a vent under the cowl. The roof drain leak only leaked when parked in my driveway which in on an angle. If I parked the car flat no leak from the sunroof. Cost me $175 to have both fixed at local dealership. Hope this helps.
