we have a 99 stratus with about 119K on it when i went to turn the car over to head home last night we got nothing. No sound at all just the brake light on the dash. Does any one have any ideas of what the problem might be? The car has been running a bit odd the last week or so. The engine has been much louder then normal and i kinda felt like it might have been running in a lower gear if that make any sense. Any help you could provide would be great thanks

 

Ok, if the dash lights are on when you turn the key to the ACC position, that's a good start. Try to start your car with the door open and watch the interior light when you turn the key. If the light goes out (along with the dash lights), the battery is likely dead or there is a connection problem. If you hear a click and nothing else, probably your starter or a connection to your starter.

If you suspect that your battery is dead, and the car has been behaving strangely, take a look at your alternator connection and drive belt. It is possible that the belt is loose or broken and not charging the battery properly.

Can you jump start the car? Will it run OK afterwards if you do that or does it run rough? My battery died a couple of months ago and I got all kinds of weirdness in the dash panel - lights flickering and random lights coming on and dropouts on the radio etc.

Lastly check your fuses and make sure all are OK.
