1995 V6 transmission in limp mode
Ok..so I've done a little bit of reading on my problem, but I just want to be absolutely certain this is the problem. My car drives fine sometimes, but other times she drops into second and stays there unless you get her up to 45 turn the ignition off and start her up again. You can stop and turn her off and turn her back on but most of the drive she just drops back into second. Now a lot of the time she drives fine until you come to a complete stop. Occasionally all gears will light up with boxes around the the letters and sometimes it doesn't. I notice she seems to drive better in the cold until the car warms up especially during the summer. My RPM odometer doesn't work at all either. My check engine light comes on...replaced the ECR valve and that didn't work. Not sure if that is related or not. I took it to a mechanic and he told me I need a whole new transmission but I really doubt it. Do I need to change the engine computer or is there a computer for just the transmission. Also if I change the computer can I just do it myself or is there some special thing a mechanic has to do? Thanks

i have read this on the neon 1st gen page almost word for word. if the od-meter don't work it's the speed sensor on the tranny. NEONS AND STRATS ARE NOT THE SAME CAR. from what i understand it a real easy job to change out, the sensor talks to the comp for fuel and other junk which MAY be the prob. might lose a bit of tranny oil (not sure as i've never had this prob) but if you have to put more in check up on the atx probs that can happen when new atf is put in an older atx. hope this helps, good luck.
this might help: www.dodgeforum.com/m_45402/tm.htm
are you showing codes? might help find the prob, the search is by the wheel at the top of the page (not trying to be an a$$).
