please help?
96, 2.4 stratus, i thoubht i ran out of gas put in 5gals. and now it barely starts with rough idle and dies when you give it gas or put in gear. i replaced timing belt 1,000 k ago.

sounds like air trapped in the fuel rail to me. there should be a valve stem looking thing on your fuel rail. WHEN THE MOTOR IS COLD (you don't wan't to burn your car down), and the eng off push the valve stem. it is under press. with a catch can (soda can) to catch the fuel hold the stem in and turn the key to on, NOT start. this should turn your fuel pump on and push the air out of the fuel rail. hope it works for you, good luck.

Hey, buddy pretty sure i got some bad news for you. I had the same problem in a chevy blazer, i was liek on empty then filled up and car would never start and when it did it idled really rough. Took it in and turns out that i had gotten bad gas. and all the stuff at the bottom of the tank went through the whole gas line system. I think i spent around 2-3, to clean out the whole system plus the engine, there was chunks of stuff in it pretty nasty. sounds like you need to go get it checked out buddy.

 

well i don't really know what happened, but after i got it towed home i let it set overnight and then it started right up and is still running great. but thanks for your suggestions.
