Default Oil light flicker..car sputters, shut down..dealer is clueless

I have a 2001 Status.. The oil has been changed every 3k miles it 83k miles on it. I recently changed the oil and put in a Penzoil High Mileage oil. This is different from the oil that has been in the car. The mechanic assured me the High Mileage oil has the same vescosity and should not cause this problem.

I noticed the oil light flickering and 2 weeks ago the car sputtered badly. About a week ago the car shut off while I was driving at about 30MPH. I got it restarted and took it to the dealer. They check the oil pressure and it was good, no sludge in the engine that they could tell. They could not get the car to do what it has been doing. I have been driving the car just fine for the past week, but yesterday I noticed the oil light flicker but the car kept running just fine. I was going about 40MPH when I noticed the flicker. The car idles fine.
The dealer told me if the car stalls the oil light will come on.

I am afraid the car may just shut off at a high speed in heavy traffic and cause a me a major problem.

The things I have done:
Ran better gas and fuel line cleaner
Had the pressure checked
Oil was changed a few weeks ago
Checked the oil level several times to make sure there is no major leaking or burning of oil

Can anyone tell me what this porblem could possibly be?
I have read on here maybe oil pump, sensor or switch.
Can an oil problem make a car shut off completely, and then run fine? Is it a Fuel pump problem? The check engine light has not come on.

What things can I try to narrow down what is causing this? Should I take out the High Mleage oil and put back in what I have been running in it?

Thanks for the help
Dave

I had this problem and it turned out to be the oil sending unit. The part is only like $40 but cost me about $198 to get it installed.
